OFF: Strange Result Using Quick View on Shortcut Bar ButtonID: Q130584
|
Microsoft Windows 95 allows you to perform a Quick View of files on the desktop. If you perform this operation on one of the toolbar buttons on the Office Shortcut Bar pointing to an program, it will display a dialog box containing information about the program. If you then click Open For Editing on the File menu, the program is started. If you click Open File For Editing in the Quick View dialog box on the Start A New Document or Open A Document button, Office Help is started.
This behavior is by design for programs installed under Windows 95. The buttons on the toolbar are Windows 95 shortcuts to the program; the same behavior results when a Quick View is performed on an program shortcut.
When the Quick View option is selected, information about the executable file is displayed. For example, the first section appears as follows:
WINDOWS EXECUTABLE
Technical File Information:
Image File Header
Signature: xxxxxxxx
Machine: Intel 386
Number of Sections: xxxx
Time Date Stamp: xxxxxxxx
Symbols Pointer: xxxxxxxx
Size of Optional Header xxxx
Characteristics: File is executable (i.e.
no unresolved external
references).
Line numbers stripped from file.
Local symbols stripped from file.
32 bit word machine.
In the case of the Start A New Document or Open A Document buttons, the
information displayed is for the Msow.exe file.
