OFF95: Applications That Qualify You for Competitive Upgrade

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0

SUMMARY

If you own certain word processors, spreadsheets, presentation graphics packages, or database programs, including Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, Harvard Graphics, Paradox, Microsoft Project, or Microsoft Works, you qualify for the Microsoft Office competitive upgrade.

To discourage unlawful use of Microsoft Office upgrade products, the Compliance Checking Program (CCP) in all Microsoft Office 7.0 upgrade products employ strict compliance checking. Strict compliance checking requires either the availability of a setup diskette or the existence of a prior/competitive version on the system.

To determine if you are eligible for the upgrade, the Microsoft Office Setup program checks your computer for certain filenames, .INI entries, or REG.DAT entries. In most cases, if the Setup program does not find the qualifying product on your hard disk drive, you are prompted to insert Disk 1 of the qualifying program.
