OFF95: Excel32.cnv/Mswrd632.cnv Not in Converter FolderID: Q135472
|
When you run Microsoft Office Setup, if you change the folder for the Converters option, the converter files Excel32.cnv and Mswrd632.cnv may be installed to the default folder (c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared) instead of for the folder you specified during Setup.
This problem occurs if you have Lotus Notes installed on your computer, and you choose to install the Lotus Notes converter during Setup. This behavior alone does not cause a problem. However, if you move the files Excel32.cnv and Mswrd632.cnv to the folder that contains the other converter files (the folder you indicated for the Office converters during Setup), you receive the following error messages when you open a Microsoft Excel worksheet in Microsoft Word:
This problem occurs because when you move one of the converter files from the folder to which it was installed, Microsoft Word cannot auto-register the converter because Word only looks in the default locations when auto- registering a converter.Word cannot start the converter Excel32.cnv
To avoid receiving an error message in Microsoft Word when you open a Microsoft Excel file, do not move the Excel32.cnv or Mswrd632.cnv files, even if they are installed to a different folder than the other converter files.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
