SYMPTOMS

When you run Help, the text on the Help screen may appear cut off; that is, descriptions on the screen may be incomplete.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the Haettenschweiler font is missing or damaged on your computer. This font is used in the Help file, primarily on the graphical screens that contain more information about the new features in the Office applications. For example, the What's New topic in Microsoft Office Help uses the Haettenschweiler font.

This font is very narrow, allowing a large number of characters in a given space. If the Haettenschweiler font file is missing or damaged, the font that is substituted does not allow as many characters in the same space, resulting in text that is cut off in the Help file.

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, use any of the following methods:

Method 1: If the Haettenschweiler font is still located on your computer

(in the FONTS folder in the Microsoft Windows folder) delete the
existing file. Run the Microsoft Office Setup program again in
maintenance mode, and click Reinstall. This will correctly
          reinstall the missing file.

Method 2: If you installed Microsoft Office from CD or from an
Administrators installation on the network, do the following:

          a. If the Haettenschweiler font is still located on your computer
(in the FONTS folder in the Microsoft Windows folder) delete
             the existing file.

          b. Insert the Microsoft Office CD, or connect to the network
server that contains the Office installation.

          c. Using Windows Explorer or My Computer, locate the Hatten.ttf
file in the OS\FONTS folder (on the CD), or the OS\FONTS
folder in the Microsoft Office folder (on the Network server).

          d. Open the FONTS folder in the Microsoft Windows folder on your
             hard disk.

          e. Drag the Hatten.ttf file from the \OS\FONTS folder on the CD
or network server to your FONTS folder on your hard disk.

Note that the font is automatically installed when you copy the
.TTF file to the FONTS folder in Windows 95.
