OFF97: Error When Inserting .Exe File into Worksheet in BinderID: Q172543

When you insert a file into a Microsoft Excel worksheet section that is in a Binder in Microsoft Office 97 for Windows, you may receive the following error message:
If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to any of the following:This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at
0137:304425a3.
EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module KERNEL32.DLL at
0137:bff9a5d0.
BINDER caused an exception 6bfH in module KERNEL32.DLL at
0137:bff9a3c0.
This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
To resolve this problem, do not select the Link To File check box when you
insert an .exe file. If you do not select the check box, the problem does
not occur.
If this problem occurs, quit Binder as soon as possible. If necessary, save
any changes that you have made to the file.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
This problem occurs only when you attempt to insert an .exe file into a Microsoft Excel worksheet section in a Binder. If you attempt to insert an executable file into other kinds of sections, you may receive the following error messages:
The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.
Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not
been deleted, moved, or renamed.
If you do not select the Link To File check box, you can insert an executable file into Microsoft Excel worksheet sections, Microsoft Word document sections, and Microsoft PowerPoint presentation sections.It isn't possible to create a link to <Program name>.
