OFF97: How to Completely Remove the SR-1 Patch and Patch Update

To remove the patch from your computer, you must first uninstall (completely remove) the current installation of Office 97. For information about removing Office 97 from your computer, see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: When you follow the steps in this article, it is important to note that all of the folders, files and registry keys and values that are listed may not be present on your computer. If this behavior occurs, continue to the next file, folder, registry key, or registry key value.

After you remove Office 97 from your computer you can remove the Office 97 SR-1 Patch. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Windows Explorer, delete the following folder:
    
          Windows\Temp\IPX000.TMP 


  2. In Windows Explorer, delete the files in the folders listed in the following table.

    NOTE: Do not delete the folders.

          W95inf16.dll            Windows\System
          W95inf32.dll            Windows\System 


  3. On the Start menu, click Run. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

    WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows 95. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

    For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat) before you edit the registry.


  4. Select the following key in the registry:
    
          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{1CF2B120-547D-101B-8E65-08002B2BD119} 

    With the key selected, click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted whether to delete this key, click Yes.


  5. Repeat the previous step (step 4) to delete the following registry keys:
    
          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{22F03340-547D-101B-8E65-08002B2BD119}
    
          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{22F55881-280B-11D0-A8A9-00A0C90C2004}
    
          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{22F55882-280B-11D0-A8A9-00A0C90C2004}
    
          HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Interface\{CF51ED10-62FE-11CF-BF86-00A0C9034836}
