OFF97: OSB Buttons Move or Appear When Renamed

SYMPTOMS

When you rename an Office Shortcut Bar button and then click OK, the following problems may occur:


WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the following steps:

  1. With the right mouse button click (right-click) Start on the taskbar and click Explore.


  2. Open the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Shortcut Bar folder.


  3. Open the folder that contains the toolbar buttons you want to rename.


  4. Click the file with the name of the button to rename. On the File menu, click Rename.


  5. With file name selected, type the new name for the button and press ENTER.


  6. Close the Windows Explorer.


The Office Shortcut Bar should display the new name for the button(s). If the new name does not appear, right-click the Office Shortcut Bar, and then click Refresh Icons.


STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
