OFF98: Remove All Option Doesn't Remove All Files from Hard Disk

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Office 98 Installer located on the Office 98 compact disc inside Microsoft Office 98 and select the option to Remove, some files will be left on the hard drive.

When the Microsoft Office 98 Installer performs the Remove function, it will not remove all files that are installed to the hard drive.

CAUSE

By design, the Office 98 Installer leaves specific Library files that are used by other applications. The installer also leaves System items, such as fonts, settings files, and the Registration Database files.

The Office 98 Installer does not remove the following items from your hard disk drive when you select the Remove option.

 Microsoft OLE Automation
 Microsoft OLE Library

 Microsoft Structured Storage

 Extensions--Type Libraries folder:

 Standard OLE Types (PowerMac)

 MS Container Lib (PPC)
