Office: Excel Setup Fails on Office CD-ROM Version 3.0

SUMMARY

When you run the SETUP.EXE program for Microsoft Excel that is located in the PRODUCTS\XL4A directory on the CD-ROM version of Microsoft Office version 3.0 for Windows, the setup will fail. The user initialization screen (where you are supposed to enter your name and company) will have the letter "a" entered for the company and will not allow you to enter an alternative company name. When you continue from this point, a complete installation will stop at 4-percent and ask for disk 1.

To correctly run the setup for Microsoft Excel from the CD-ROM version of Office version 3.0, you must use the integrated setup by running the SETUP.EXE program located in the root directory of your CD-ROM disk. This setup program will allow you to individually install any of the applications included with Microsoft Office version 3.0 and will also allow you to customize the setup for these applications.
