OFFICE: TEMPDIR= Not Corrected in SETUP.ADM CD Directory

ID: Q117783

The information in this article applies to:

SUMMARY

On the Microsoft Office 4.2 and 4.3 floppy disks, the TEMPDIR= variable in the SETUP.LST file was set to a lower number than needed, resulting in the "Insufficient disk space..." setup error message. Although this problem was corrected on the Office 4.2-CD and 4.3-CD, the SETUP.LST files in the SETUP.ADM directory of the 4.2-CD were not adjusted to reflect this correction.

MORE INFORMATION

In order to correct this problem for an Administrative installation from the CD-ROM, do the following:

  1. Copy the Disk1 directory from the SETUP.ADM directory on the CD to your hard disk drive.

  2. Set the properties of all files in the Disk1 directory on your hard drive to read/write. Refer to your MS-DOS "User's Guide" or your Windows "User's Guide" for more information on how to set the file attributes.

  3. Start Notepad and open the SETUP.LST file on the hard drive.

  4. Make the following changes to the SETUP.LST file: - Change the TEMPDIR= setting from 900 to 2600. - Change the CmdLine= line from:

             CmdLine = acmsetup /^ /T setup.stf /s %s %s

    -to-

             CmdLine = acmsetup /^ /T setup.stf /A /S <drive>\setup.adm\disk1

    where <drive> is the CD-ROM drive.

  5. SETUP.EXE is now on your hard drive and you can double-click it to begin your Administrative installation.

This change allows you to double-click the SETUP.EXE that is copied to the hard drive and begin your Administrative installation of Microsoft Office 4.2.
