Undo Won't Work/Crash After Insert Excel Object in PowerPoint

ID: Q127205

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft PowerPoint, when you insert a Microsoft Excel 5.0 object on your slide, if you choose Undo from the Edit menu after the object is inserted, the object is not removed from your slide.

Additionally, if you then select the object and press Delete, your computer may stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you choose Undo from the Edit menu in Microsoft PowerPoint immediately after you insert a Microsoft Excel 5.0 object. The Undo command does not work to undo the Microsoft Excel object that is inserted, even though the command is available after you insert the object.

Additionally, if you delete the object after choosing the Undo command, your system may hang.

WORKAROUND

To delete a Microsoft Excel 5.0 object from a slide in Microsoft PowerPoint, select the object, and press the DELETE key, or choose Clear from the Edit menu instead of using the Undo command on the Edit menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel version 5.0a for the Macintosh.
