OL97: "Read-Only" Not Removed from Titlebar in Saved Item

SYMPTOMS

When you open an item in a read-only public folder, make a change, and then save the item, you are prompted to save the item in the default folder for that item type. At that point, the focus changes to the saved item but the item's titlebar still displays "Read-Only," even though the item is not read-only.

WORKAROUND

To remove the words "Read-Only" from the titlebar, close the item, and then reopen the saved copy.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

1. In Outlook, locate a read-only public folder.

2. Open a read-only item and notice the words "Read-Only" in the item's

   titlebar.

3. Make a change to the item.

4. On the File menu, click Save.

5. Click OK when you receive a warning message that the file will be saved

   in the default folder for this item type. Note that the focus has
   changed to the saved item. If you make further changes in the item, you
   will not receive a warning message. However, the words "Read-Only" are
   still displayed in the titlebar.
