OL97: Access Violation Using Outlook with Peer Web Services

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When running Windows NT Workstation, version 4.0, with Peer Web Services, and you click the Internet tab on the Properties dialog of a system folder, Outlook 97 may close without notification or you may get the following error message:

             An application error has occurred
       And an application error log is being generated
                        OUTLOOK.exe
   Exception access violation (0xc0000005), Address 0x58a07ab2.

RESOLUTION

This problem does not occur if you are logged on as Administrator.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Outlook 97. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Install Windows NT Workstation, 4.0, Service Pack 2.

2. Install Peer Web Services (see REFERENCES section below).

3. Log on to Windows NT 4.0 with User rights.

4. Start Outlook and on the Outlook Bar click Other.

5. Right-click on either the Personal or Favorites folder or double-click

   My Computer and right-click on a system folder.

6. On the context menu, click Properties.

7. Click the Internet tab.

Results: You may receive the error message described in the SYMPTOMS section above or Outlook may close without notification.
