OL97: Cannot Show More Than 12 All Day Events in Day View

ID: Q166124

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

The Day portion of the Day/Week/Month view of the Calendar does not display more than twelve all-day events in the same day.

CAUSE

The design of the Day/Week/Month view of Outlook provides a fixed amount of screen display space for all-day events. Outlook only allocates enough space to show a maximum of twelve all-day events in the Day portion of the Day/Week/Month view.

RESOLUTION

Switch the view to Events and group by start date. To do this, follow these steps:

1. On the View menu, point to Current View, and then click Events.

2. On the View menu, click Group By.

3. In the Group By dialog box, under Group Items By, click Start from the

   drop-down list, then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

The display area of the screen limits the number of events that can be viewed. The amount of information viewable in the display area is determined by the Resolution setting in Control Panel.

To check the display resolution, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

2. Double-click the Display icon.

3. On the Settings tab, under Desktop Area, note the pixels value.

In a default configuration, use the following chart to show the number of events you can typically see.

NOTE: Some of the resolution values are not available on all monitors. The chart is for explanation purposes only.

 Events Pixels
 -----------------
    9 640x480
   12 800x600
   16 1024x768
   23 1280x1024
   28 1600x1200

If you change the screen resolution, these changes will affect all programs. This may not be feasible for all users. These event counts are based on Outlook being maximized (filling the entire screen) and the events showing in approximately 50 percent of the vertical display area in the daily calendar view. If less is shown, rest your mouse pointer over the border of the calendar and when it changes to the expander icon (horizontal bar with arrowheads), click and drag it to the right. This will cause the screen to refresh and will now display as many events as is available for the space.
