When starting Microsoft Outlook 97 with Windows NT 4.0, you may receive The following error message:
The procedure entry point wnetnumcachedpassword could not be located
in the dynamic link library 'MPR.DLL'
The wrong version of the Windows Messaging subsystem of Windows NT is installed on your computer.
Try these methods to resolve this problem:

CAUTION: The procedures below remove your existing mail profile information. You will have to create a new profile after following the steps below.
IMPORTANT: This article contains information about editing the registry. Before you edit the registry, you should first make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat). Both are hidden files in the Windows folder.
Follow these steps to remove and reinstall the correct Windows NT Messaging files:
1. On the Windows Taskbar, click Start and point to Settings and then click
Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. On the Install/Uninstall tab,
click either Microsoft Outlook 97 or Microsoft Office 97 (depending on
where you installed Outlook from.)
3. If you installed Outlook, in the Setup program click Remove All.
If you installed Office, in the Setup program click Add/Remove. Click
to clear Outlook and click Continue.
If prompted to remove the Windows Messaging component, click Keep.
WARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows NT 4.0. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For information about how to edit the registry, view the Changing Keys And Values online Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe). Note that you should make a backup copy of the registry files (System.dat and User.dat) before you edit the registry.
1. On the Windows Taskbar, click Start, point to Settings and then click
Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. On the Windows NT Setup tab, click
to clear Windows Messaging, and click OK.
3. Once the Windows Messaging component is removed, on the Windows Taskbar,
click Start and then Run.
4. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
5. In the Registry Editor navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Windows Messaging Subsystem
6. Click the key "Windows Messaging Subsystem" and on the Registry menu,
click "Export Registry File." Export the key to your Desktop as a
backup and with the key still selected, press the DELETE key to remove
it from the registry.
1. On the Windows Taskbar, click Start point to Settings and then click
Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. On the Windows NT Setup tab, click to
select Windows Messaging. Click Details and make sure all required
components are checked. Click OK and click OK.
1. Insert your Outlook or Office CD into the drive.
2. If setup does not automatically start, click Start and then Run. In the
Open box, type D:\Setup, where D is the name of your CD drive. Click OK.
3. If you are running Outlook Setup follow the prompts to install.
If you are running Office Setup, choose Add/Remove and then click to
select Outlook and click Continue.
Once Outlook is reinstalled, you must create a new profile. For more
