The information in this article applies to:
The Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP) will save the password used to log on to your Internet e-mail server when you check for new mail the first time. This occurs even though you may have intentionally left the password field blank in the properties for the IMEP.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP). We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
If you have intentionally left the password field blank in the properties for the IMEP, you will be prompted to enter your password when you check for new mail the first time only. The password you enter will be saved in the properties of the IMEP. This functionality is different from the Internet Mail service that is included with Microsoft Outlook 97, version 8.0. In the earlier version of the Internet Mail service it is possible to have Outlook prompt you for your password each time you check for new mail.
