OL97: Invalid Page Fault in Outlrpc.dll Starting Outlook

SYMPTOMS

When you first start Microsoft Outlook 97, you may receive an invalid page fault in module Outlrpc.dll.


CAUSE

You have an invalid, outdated or damaged Msvcrt40.dll file on your system. This file resides in your \Windows\System folder. Msvcrt40.dll is a Microsoft C Runtime Library file. The correct file is version 4.10.6038 with a size of 326,656 bytes and a date of 11/17/96.


RESOLUTION

Replace the problem Msvcrt40.dll file with the correct version from your Microsoft Office 97 or Outlook CD.

Rename the Current File

Exit Windows and restart in MS-DOS mode to rename the files. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start and click Shut Down.


  2. Click to select "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode."


  3. Type "cd system" (without quotation marks) and press ENTER.


  4. Type "ren Msvcrt40.dll Msvcrt40.old" (without quotation marks) and then press ENTER to rename the file.


  5. Type "exit" (without the quotation marks) and then press ENTER to restart Windows.


  6. Copy the Msvcrt40.dll file from your Office 97 or Outlook CD, or extract it from your original Windows 98 CD, Internet Explorer 4.01 or 5.0 CD, or reinstall the version of Internet Explorer you use.
