OL97: Outlook Does Not Work with Lotus Notes Mail

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Outlook 97

SYMPTOMS

You cannot connect to a Lotus Notes Mail mailbox using Microsoft Outlook as the mail client.

CAUSE

The MAPI driver provided by Lotus with Notes Mail implements too little of the MAPI specification for use as an Outlook store provider.

STATUS

Lotus Notes Mail is currently not a supported configuration. Microsoft is working with Lotus to resolve this issue.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook works only with information store providers that are fully MAPI compliant.

Drivers that ship with Outlook include:

Microsoft Exchange Server
Microsoft Mail Post Office
Lotus cc:Mail Post Office
Microsoft At Work Fax
Microsoft Network
Internet Mail (SMTP/POP3)

Tested drivers that do not currently work include:

Lotus Notes Mail
Netscape SMTP driver (using the Internet Mail driver provided with Outlook, you can connect to Netscape and other SMTP/POP3 servers.)

Drivers not listed are untested as of this writing.
