OL97: Outlook Spelling Options Are Not Persistent

SYMPTOMS

Selected spelling options are not persistent in Microsoft Outlook 97, after installing Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and Microsoft Outlook Express.

RESOLUTION

Reinstall Microsoft Office 97 using the Setup /y option. This re-registers the Office components.

To Reinstall Office with the /y Switch

1. Quit all Office programs.

2. Insert your Office setup CD or disk in the proper drive.

3. Click the Start button and then click Run.

4. In the Open box, type the following and then click OK

      <drive letter>:\Setup /y

   where <drive letter> is the drive with the setup disk.

5. When the Setup maintenance program dialog box is displayed,
   click Reinstall.

This re-registers all of the Microsoft Office 97 components.

Steps to Reproduce Problem

1. Install Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 and Outlook Express.

2. Start Outlook.

3. On the Tools menu, click Options.

4. On the Spelling tab, click to select, "Always check spelling before

   sending," "Ignore word in UPPERCASE," and "Ignore words with numbers."

5. Quit and restart Outlook.

RESULTS: The options selected in step 4 above, may no longer be selected.
