After installing Microsoft Office 97, Microsoft Outlook 97 starts automatically when you connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) and check for mail.
When you installed Office 97, Microsoft Internet Explorer was updated to use Outlook as your default e-mail client.
In Microsoft Internet Explorer, change the Mail service back to your previous mail client. Installing Office 97 modifies the registered file type for the "URL:MailTo Protocol" entry, to point to Outlook.
To change the your default mail client, follow these steps:
1. Start Microsoft Internet Explorer.
2. On the View menu, click Options (in Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0), or
Internet Options (in Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0.)
3. On the Programs tab, in the Mail list, click to select
the program you want to use as the default mail client and click OK.
