OL97:Editing Contact Phone Number Causes IPF in Mso97.dll

SYMPTOMS

When you modify a phone number field in a Contact in Microsoft Outlook 97 version 8.02 or 8.03 on a Compaq Presario computer, an Invalid Page Fault in Mso97.dll may occur.

CAUSE

There is a problem in the Telephone Application Programming Interface provider (TAPI) that is pre-installed on the computer.

RESOLUTION

To remove the telephony service, follow these steps.

1. Quit Outlook if it is currently open.

2. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

3. Double-click Telephony.

4. On the Telephony tab, click to select "Compaq Telephony Service

   Provider," click Remove, and then click OK.

5. Close Control Panel, then restart your computer.
