Winsock Proxy Logging Limited in Comparison to Web Proxy

SUMMARY

The Web Proxy logs more detailed information than the Winsock Proxy does. For example, the Web Proxy logs the file being accessed, while the Winsock Proxy only logs the client and the site visited.

The Web Proxy can get more information from the HTTP protocol because more information is provided by the proxy clients (browsers, and HTTP clients like Pointcast) that tell the client how to deal with a proxy.

In contrast, the Winsock Proxy can only find out the client and site visited (all of the information that an application provides via Winsock API).

Two levels of logging are available for Microsoft Proxy Server, regular and verbose. For a complete list of field names used in logging please refer to the Microsoft Proxy Server documentation.
