SNABASE may fail to start on a server running an international version of Windows NT Server version 3.5 when the server is installed as a member of a workgroup. SNABASE logs Event ID 1021 with error code 534.
SNABASE uses the following steps to find out which account owns SNA security:
1. Call the LSA and attempt to get the Administrator SID from the domain
controller. (This fails when you run Windows NT Server as a server in
a workgroup.)
2. If the above step failed, LookupAccountSid on the string
Administrator
This fails on international versions due to the localization of the
Administrator string.
To work around this problem, create a copy of the localized Administrator account and name the account Administrator.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SNA Server for Windows NT version 2.1. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
