SUMMARYWhen installing Microsoft Excel for Windows, version 3.0 or 4.0, with Microsoft Windows operating environment version 3.1 with the application Wired For Sound running, you will receive the error message "Setup has caused a General Protection Fault in module USER.EXE at 001:AB65"; the memory address may vary.
MORE INFORMATIONTo set up Microsoft Excel 4.0 successfully, disable Wired for Sound by removing it from the Load= line in the WIN.INI file and restart Windows. If you are using Microsoft Windows version 3.1, make sure that Wired For Sound is not in your startup group. You can now run setup again to install Microsoft Excel. According to Aristosoft technical support, Aristosoft has released a patch for its Wired for Sound program that makes it compatible with Windows 3.1.
