BUG: Banyan Vines Netlib Does Not Support Larger TDS Packet Size

ID: Q155183

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

The Banyan Vines Client Net-Libraries for MS-DOS (DBMSVINE.EXE), Windows (DBMSVIN3.DLL) and Windows NT (DBMSVINN.DLL) do not correctly support negotiated packet sizes. If the DB-Library or ODBC application attempts to use a larger TDS packet size, then the client application may stop responding (hang) if greater than 512 bytes are returned by SQL Server.

If the application hangs, the workstation or Windows NT subsystem may become unstable.

WORKAROUND

Force the client application to use the default 512 bytes TDS packet size.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
