BUG: DocErr: Books Online Missing Concatenation Operator (+)

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft SQL Server "Books Online" is missing the plus sign concatenation operator (+) in many places.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft SQL Server version 6.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

The following are examples of where the concatention operator is missing in "Books Online":

In the "Database Developer's Companion," Chapter 4, Using Built-in Functions, String Functions, the String functions section, and then the example:
```
      SELECT 'The price is '  CONVERT(varchar(12), price)
      FROM titles
      WHERE price > 10.00 
```

In the "Database Developer's Companion," Chapter 4, Using Built-in Functions, String Functions, in the Concatenation section.

In the "Transact-SQL Reference," F, Functions chapter, Convert Function section, and then the example:
```
      SELECT 'The date is '  CONVERT(varchar(12), getdate())
  
```

In the "Administrator's Companion," Part 8, Chapter 24 in the sections on sp_resetstatus and sp_marksuspect (as reported in BUG 12099).

However, at some places in "Books Online," the concatenation operator is present.

In the "Transact-SQL Reference," P, Print, in the example:


   DECLARE @returnmessage varchar(255)
   SELECT @returnmessage = 'This record was updated on ' +
      RTRIM(CONVERT(char(30), GETDATE())) + '.'
   PRINT @returnmessage

NOTE: The printed documentation set for SQL Server 6.0 is fine, it is not missing the concatenation operator.
