BUG: SELECT from Multiple Unjoined Tables Can Cause AV

SYMPTOMS

A SELECT from multiple base tables with no join clauses may cause an Access Violation in Microsoft SQL Server 6.0

WORKAROUND

Simplifying the SELECT statement or restricting the number of rows or tables in the query will avoid the Access Violation.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in SQL Server version 6.0. This problem does not occur in SQL Server version 6.5. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

In testing a SELECT statement based on eight or more unjoined tables consisting of a single integer column and 1000 rows each, reproduced the problem.
