ACC: Editing Allowed Although AllowEditing Set to Unavailable

SYMPTOMS

Novice: Requires knowledge of the user interface on single-user computers.

Even though a form's AllowEditing property is set to Unavailable, you can edit, add, or delete records in the form.

RESOLUTION

To set a form so that records cannot be edited, set the DefaultEditing property to Read Only and the AllowEditing property to Unavailable.

MORE INFORMATION

The form's DefaultEditing property determines whether you can modify records in the form. You can set the DefaultEditing property to Read Only, Data Entry, or Allow Edits.

The AllowEditing property on a form determines whether the Allow Editing command on the Records menu is available when you open the form. If the Allow Editing command is available, you can override the form's DefaultEditing property.

STATUS

This behavior no longer occurs in Microsoft Access version 7.0. The DefaultEditing and AllowEditing properties have been replaced by Allow Edits, Allow Additons, and Allow Deletions.
