INF: Backup of Logins with Integrated and Mixed SecurityID: Q131012
|
In order to backup SQL Server logins, when SQL Server is running Integrated or Mixed Security mode, the NTBackup utility must be used to create a current backup of the Windows NT Registry after new logins are added.
When Windows NT Groups are granted permissions to connect to SQL Server by
either the xp_grantlogin extended stored procedure or the SQL Security
Manager, the Windows NT Group is granted security permissions in the
Windows NT Registry.
To backup the Windows NT Registry with NTBackup, choose to backup the drive
that Windows NT is installed on, and select the Backup Registry checkbox on
the Backup Information dialog window.
To restore the Windows NT Registry with NTBackup, choose a tape that has
the Windows NT Registry on it, restore the drive that Windows NT is
installed on, and select the Restore Local Registry check box on the
Restore Information dialog window.
