Microsoft SQL Server Programmer's Toolkit, version 4.2
Micro Decisionware and Microsoft have worked together to develop a
Database Gateway for DB2 that uses DB-Library (DB-Lib) calls to access
DB2 databases.
Not only does this product allow direct access to a DB2 database
through any SQL Server front-end application, but it also allows data
to be moved from DB2 into SQL Servers and vice versa.
The Database Gateway processes and converts the constructs of the
DB-LIBRARY API and TRANSACT-SQL to APPC, CICS, and DB2 interfaces. The
Database Gateway processes, converts, and returns DB2 data and
messages in structures that appear to the client to be coming from SQL
Server through named pipes.
The gateway uses DCA/Microsoft Communications Server, DCA/Microsoft
Communications Workstation, or IBM OS/2 EE Communications Manager to
connect with the mainframe. The host side uses the standard IBM system
components APPC, CICS, MVS, and VTAM. The LAN side uses APIs and
technologies that are LAN standards.
