A non MS-DOS-based client can receive Error Msg 10004, Sev 9, State 9,
Unable to connect: SQL Server is unavailable or does not exist
The Configuration Guide incorrectly states the Connection String to connect
to SQL Server running on an alternate pipe name.
In step 5 of the section on setting up server connections for non MS-DOS-
based clients, it gives the following as an example of the Connection
String for connecting to SQL Server using an alternate pipe name:

\\<server name>\pipe\alt1\query
\\.\pipe\alt1\query
\pipe\alt1\query
