PRB: Mirror Enabled After Losing Primary Device

Last reviewed: August 29, 1997
Article ID: Q150458

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server, version 6.0
BUG#: 13790 (6.00)

SYMPTOMS

The sp_helpdevice stored procedure shows that mirroring is enabled when the primary device has been lost.

WORKAROUND

Use Windows NT mirroring (Raid 1) instead of SQL Server mirroring, or check the SQL Server errorlog to determine if the primary device is online.

MORE INFORMATION

This is expected behavior of SQL Server. However, if the mirror device is lost, sp_helpdevice will properly show that mirroring is disabled.
