Use of the DOLLAR() function in Microsoft Excel returns a value that is
formatted as text. When trying to use the returned value from a formula
using the DOLLAR() function in a worksheet formula, a value of zero is
returned.
To sum the values returned by a DOLLAR() function, use an addition formula,
such as =A1+A2, where A1 and A2 have text values returned from a formula
using the DOLLAR() function.
Numeric values that exist as text, such as ="25", or the text values
returned by a formula, such as =DOLLAR(), can be used in formulas that use
standard mathematic operators (for example +,-,*, or /) but not in
worksheet formulas.
