The information in this article applies to:
When Windows 95 is set up to suppress filename extensions (that is, the "Hide MS-DOS File Extensions For File Types That Are Registered" check box is selected), files that are saved with the same name but with different filename extensions may appear to be duplicate filenames in the Recently Used area on the File menu.
To work around this problem, use the following steps to clear the "Hide MS- DOS File Extensions For File Types That Are Registered" check box:
1. Dobule-click My Computer.
2. On the View menu, click Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. Clear (remove the check mark from) the "Hide MS-DOS File Extensions For
File Types That Are Registered" check box.
The filename extensions will then be visible, and you will be able to
distinguish the files by their different extensions.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
