Embedded and Subscribed Excel Charts Appear Black and White

SYMPTOMS

When you copy and paste from or subscribe to a chart created in Microsoft Excel, the chart may appear in the target application in black and white.

WORKAROUND

To create a publisher in color from Microsoft Excel for use in another application that supports Apple's Publish and Subscribe, use the following steps:

1. Open the Microsoft Excel chart or worksheet.

2. On the File menu, click Print.

3. In the Print dialog box, click the Options button, and select the Print 

   Using Color option. Choose the Print Preview button.

   NOTE: The options in the print dialog box will vary depending on the
   printer driver you are using.
4. Click the Print button.

5. In the Print Preview window, click Close.

6. On the Edit menu, point to Publishing, and click Create Publisher (the 

   thumbnail preview should display the Chart in color).
7. Open or switch to the application that you want to subscribe from.

8. On the Edit menu, click Subscribe To.

After following these steps, the Microsoft Excel Edition should appear in color in the subscribing application.

NOTE: If you update a subscribed Microsoft Excel Chart, choose Save from the file menu; changes will then be reflected in the subscribing application.

To embed a Microsoft Excel chart in color in another Microsoft application, such as Word or PowerPoint, use steps 1 through 5 above, then follow these steps:

1. On the Edit menu, click Copy.

2. Open or switch to the target application.

3. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

After you follow these steps, the embedded Excel Chart should appear in color in the target application.
