SUMMARY

When a Microsoft Excel chart is created in which certain category labels have been left blank on the worksheet, the chart will display a 0 (zero) on the category axis where the blank category should be.

For example, if the following data is entered in a worksheet:

       A B
     +---+---+
   1 | 1 | 5 |
     +---+---+
   2 | 2 | 7 |
     +---+---+
   3 | 3 | 9 |
     +---+---+
   4 | | 8 |
     +---+---+
   5 | 5 | 4 |
     +---+---+

Creating a chart with A1:A5 specified as categories will result in a category axis that appears as follows:

   +-----+-----+-----+-----+-----+
      1 2 3 0 5

To show the values for the chart and display nothing on the category axis for particular categories, enter a space (using the SPACEBAR key) or ="" in the cell on the worksheet that contains the category information.

MORE INFORMATION

Versions 1.50 and later of Excel do not display a zero in the category axis for missing category-label information. To obtain the current version of Excel, call Microsoft End User Sales and Service at (800) 426-9400.
