Some Key Combinations Don't Work in Visual Basic Module

ID: Q118975

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, the key combinations CTRL+HOME and CTRL+END do not move the selection to the top of the sheet, or to the end of the sheet, respectively, when the active sheet is a Visual Basic module. Additionally, when you press COMMAND+A, the sheet is not selected when the active sheet is a Visual Basic module.

In Microsoft Excel for Windows, when you press CTRL+A, the sheet is not selected when the active sheet is a Visual Basic module.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design in Microsoft Excel 5.0. The key combinations COMMAND+A and CTRL+A are not supported in Visual Basic, Applications Edition. These key combinations are supported when you are editing a worksheet.

In Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, when you press CTRL+HOME in a worksheet, the selection moves to the top of the worksheet. When you press CTRL+END in a worksheet, the selection moves to the end of the worksheet. However, these keys do not work in a Visual Basic module in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh.

NOTE: The CTRL+HOME and CTRL+END key combinations are supported in a Visual Basic module in Microsoft Excel 7.0.

WORKAROUNDS

To move the selection to the beginning of a Visual Basic module in Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, press COMMAND+HOME. To move the selection to the end of a Visual Basic module, press COMMAND+END.

To select an entire module in Microsoft Excel, press CTRL+HOME, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+END (Windows) or COMMAND+HOME and then press COMMAND+SHIFT+END (Macintosh).
