WD98: Cannot Record Speak Selection or Pick Voice

SYMPTOMS

When you click Speak Selection or Pick Voice on the Tools menu while recording a macro, these actions are not recorded.

To work around this problem, edit the macro created by the macro recorder to include one of the following Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications statements.

To Run Speak Selection

   CommandBars("Tools").Controls("Speak Selection").Execute

To Run Pick Voice

   CommandBars("Tools").Controls(2).Execute

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

Word Speak, included in the Microsoft Office ValuPak, installs two menu items to the Tools menu -- Speak Selection and Pick Voice.

Follow these steps to install WordSpeak:

  1. If you installed Microsoft Office or an Office program from a CD, insert the CD into the CD-ROM drive.

    -or-

    If you installed Office or an Office program from a network share, connect to that network share.

  2. On the desktop, double-click the CD-ROM drive or network share that contains Office or the Office program.

  3. Double-click the Value Pack folder.

  4. Double-click the Value Pack Installer icon.

  5. Click the WordSpeak check box to select it.

  6. Click Install.
