When you attempt to unlink a file that has been inserted into a document by selecting the linked file and then using the following Visual Basic for Applications WordBasic object command
WordBasic.EditLinks KillLink := 1, Link := "\Sel"
you will receive the following error:
Word Error 1005: This bookmark does not exist.

To work around this behavior, use either of the following methods:
Use the WordBasic UnlinkFields command to successfully unlink the selected field,
WordBasic.UnlinkFields
Use the following Visual Basic for Applications command to unlink the first field in the active document:
ActiveDocument.Fields(1).Unlink
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
