The information in this article applies to:
When you record a macro that inserts a graphic file as an Object (on the Insert menu, click Object, and then click From File) and then play back the macro, you receive the following error message:
The server application, source file, or item cannot be found.
Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it
has not been deleted, moved, or renamed.
followed by:
Run-time error '4198': Command failed.
You are inserting an object for which there is no registered class.
While recording your macro, use Insert File instead of using Insert Object:
1. On the Insert menu, click File.
2. Navigate to the file you want to insert.
3. Select the file, and then click OK.
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
