XL: Arc/Block Arc Adjusted Incorrectly When You Run Macro

ID: Q177829

The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

If you draw and adjust an arc or a block arc while recording a Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications macro, the arc may be adjusted incorrectly when you run the recorded macro.

CAUSE

Incorrect values may be recorded into the code. In the following sample code, the value 97.1806 may be incorrect:

   Selection.ShapeRange.Adjustments.Item(1) = 97.1806
   Selection.ShapeRange.Adjustments.Item(2) = 0.3785

RESOLUTION

To correct this problem, add a minus sign (-) to the left of the value of "Item(1)."

Example:

   ' Instead of 97.1806, use -97.1806.
   Selection.ShapeRange.Adjustments.Item(1) = -97.1806
   Selection.ShapeRange.Adjustments.Item(2) = 0.3785

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

You can insert an arc or a block arc into a worksheet by performing the following steps:

1. If the Drawing toolbar is not visible, point to Toolbars on the View

   menu, and then click Drawing.

2. On the Drawing toolbar, click AutoShapes, point to Basic Shapes, and
then click the arc (first shape in next-to-last row) or block arc shape
   (last shape in fifth row).

3. Draw the arc in the worksheet.

You can adjust an arc or a block arc by using the mouse to move the yellow handle inside the arc. When you adjust an arc, you do not actually resize it; instead, you change its angle of sweep and its thickness. When you adjust an arc while recording a macro, two values are recorded into the macro.

However, because of a problem in Microsoft Excel, the first value may be recorded incorrectly; instead of appearing as a negative value, it may appear as a positive value. If you use the workaround in the "Resolution" section of this article, the recorded code will correctly adjust the arc.
