In Microsoft Excel, the workbook control menu and the Restore button on the document menu bar may display even when there are no workbooks currently visible. If you try to close the document window by using the workbook control menu (next to the File menu), you may receive a general protection (GP) fault similar to the following:

This problem may occur when the following conditions are true:

To work around this problem, use any of the following methods.
Method 1: Use the Workbooks object instead of the Windows object.
Method 2: Open another workbook to create a new workbook window instead of
clicking any of the document window controls while no workbooks
are open.
Method 3: After you receive this error message, you can choose the IGNORE
button and continue working (not recommended).
Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
