XL5: Change to "Prompt Before Saving" Check Box Not Saved

SUMMARY

In Microsoft Excel 5.0, you can use the AUTOSAVE.XLA add-in function to automatically save your workbooks at a time interval that you specify.

When you change the Minutes and Save options, these changes remain in effect the next time you start Microsoft Excel. However, if you clear the Prompt Before Saving check box, this change applies only to the current session of Microsoft Excel. (That is, when you restart Microsoft Excel, the Prompt Before Saving check box is automatically reselected.)

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Excel for Windows version 5.0c.

You can use a macro to clear the Prompt Before Saving check box. If you want this macro to start automatically each time you run Microsoft Excel, create the following Visual Basic, Applications Edition, macro and store it in your Personal Macro Workbook (which should be located in the XLSTART subdirectory).

NOTE: For this macro to run correctly, the AUTOSAVE.XLA add-in macro must be loaded by choosing the Add-Ins command from the Tools menu.
