The following Visual Basic for Applications macro opens a file that is located on an Internet or intranet server, and save it to a local drive. This macro assumes that the computer running the macro has an active connection to the Internet through either a network or dial-up connection.

   Sub Open_Internet_File()

   Workbooks.Open FileName:= "http://www.InternetComputer.com/Book1.xls"

   'do not display the file when it is opened
   ActiveWindow.Visible = True

   'Set the workbook to visible, or else the file containing the macro
