Excel: Chart Title Not Deleting When Chart Reopened

SUMMARY

Note: This behavior was corrected in Microsoft Excel 3.00. Using BACKSPACE (or DELETE) and ENTER will work as expected.

In a Microsoft Excel chart with one series, if the chart title is deleted [by selecting it and pressing BACKSPACE (or DELETE) and ENTER], it will reappear when the chart is saved and reopened.

To delete the title in a chart with one series, the first argument of the SERIES formula must be eliminated, as follows:

  1. Select the first data point in the series.

  2. Select and delete the first argument in the SERIES formula in the formula bar.

For example, in the following SERIES formula, select the characters "Worksheet!$A$1":

          =SERIES(Worksheet!$A$1,,Worksheet!$A$1:$A$4,1)

  3. Press BACKSPACE (or DELETE) and ENTER.
