How to Obtain the Remote Data Service
The Remote Data Service consists of two sets of components; Client side,
and Server side. The Client side components ship with the following
products:
- Visual Studio 6.0 (RDS 1.1 and 2.0 Clients)
- Microsoft Data Access SDK and MDAC re-distributables (RDS 1.1 and 2.0 clients)
- Internet Explorer 4.0 (Contains RDS Client 1.5)
- Internet Information Server 4.0 (RDS 1.1 and 1.5 Client)
- Microsoft Data Access Components (RDS 1.1 and 1.5 Client)
The latest version of the client components are available with the
Data Access SDK and Microsoft Data Access Components, and are also available free for download at the following URL:
http://www.microsoft.com/data
RDS Resources/Points of Information
The RDS Web site, which contains the RDS components, is located at the following address:
http://www.microsoft.com/data/rds
RDS is a component within the Microsoft Data Access Components.
How to Find RDS Knowledge Base Articles
RDS is not a technology that ships with one particular product, and has
been included in the ActiveX Data Objects product roll-up. To find RDS
articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (KB) on the Web, connect to the following URL:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/
First time users will have to register to use this site. Once there, select
"Support Online" to search the Knowledge Base. From there, choose "Data Access Components (MDAC)" as the product, Remote Data Service is included with MDAC.
For the MSDN or other non-Web-based Knowledge Base search mechanisms, you
can use the keyword RDS, which is included in all RDS articles. Other
keywords that offer greater granularity when searching are documented in
the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
