Excel: Crosstabs Macro Doesn't Work on Numbered Worksheet

Last reviewed: November 3, 1994
Article ID: Q79225

SUMMARY

The Crosstabs macro that is included with Microsoft Excel version 2.x, CROSSTABS.XLM, does not work properly with a worksheet whose filename has a number as the first character. For example, Crosstabs does not run correctly on a worksheet named 2.XLS, but does run correctly on one named A2.XLS.

MORE INFORMATION

When Crosstabs is run on a worksheet whose name begins with a number, Excel displays an "Error in Formula" dialog box. When OK is selected from this dialog box, Excel displays a "Macro Error at Cell CROSSTAB.XLM!$A$31" message.

NOTE: In an Excel 3.0 worksheet, if you use the CROSSTAB.XLM that came with Excel 2.x, the same error will occur. However, if the CROSSTAB.XLA that came with Excel version 3.0 is used, this error will not occur. The CROSSTAB.XLA can be found in the QE subdirectory of Excel.
