SUMMARY

Six font files (with a .FON extension) are shipped with Microsoft C.

In C versions 6.x, the font files are Windows 2.x-compatible. In later versions, the font files are Windows 3.x-compatible.

These .FON files were developed by and are the property of Bitstream, Inc. Microsoft has full rights to distribute these font files, and the licensees of Microsoft's products (its customers) have full rights to use the font files for their personal use; however, licensees must enter into an agreement with Bitstream if they want to distribute the .FON files in any way (either for sale or at no charge).

With C/C++ 7.0 and Visual C++ for Windows, using the fonts that ship with Windows 3.x is an option; that is, you don't have to license the fonts from Bitstream.

In Visual C++ for Windows, the following three fonts are redistributable:

   smallb.fon
   smalle.fon
   smallf.fon

MORE INFORMATION

If you want to distribute these .FON files with your own application, you must contact Bitstream to enter into a sublicense "Bitmap Agreement" and pay a one-time fee of approximately $500 (this fee is subject to change). After signing the agreement and paying the fee, you may then freely distribute the .FON files in any product you want to market.

Domestic users who want to enter into this agreement should contact Bitstream's National OEM Sales Manager, Neal Dini. International customers should contact Ray Boelig at Bitstream. The phone number at Bitstream is (617) 497-6222.
