Excel: Custom Tool Faces Must Be Picture-Type Objects

Page 11 of the "Microsoft Excel Function Reference," version 4.0, shows a sample tool reference area (used by the ADD.TOOL() function), which incorrectly lists Rectangle 1 and Rectangle 3 as custom tool faces. Since tool faces must be picture objects, Microsoft Excel graphics are not acceptable. The default face for the tool will be used instead of the graphic listed in the reference area.

Custom tool, faces must be picture objects. Other graphical objects (rectangles, ovals, lines, arcs, and drawings) must be converted to picture objects before they can be used as tool faces.

To convert an Excel drawing object to a picture object:

Select the rectangle, circle, line, arc or drawing to convert.

From the Edit menu, choose Copy.

From the Edit menu, choose Paste Special.

Select Picture (Windows) or PICT (Macintosh) in the Data Type field and choose the OK button.

Note: Pictures can also be created with the camera tool or pasted via the Clipboard.
