Excel: DDE Error When Sending End Command

SUMMARY

When extracting from an external database in Microsoft Excel versions 3.0 and 4.0 for Windows, the error "DDE Error when sending end command" occurs if the criteria range contains a numeric entry for a field defined as a character in the database.

MORE INFORMATION

This error occurs only when the external database is a text file, dBase file, or an SQL table.

Workaround

Enter the criteria as text. For example:

   ="1234"
